OUR CONSTITUTION

1.NAME: University of Glasgow Healthcare Students Against Racism


2.PURPOSES: To lobby and work with the School of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing for race equality, for both students and in the curriculum.


3.ACTIVITIES: Work with and lobby the School of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing;organise educational events for students, campaign for race equality and organise social events for healthcare students of colour.


4.MEMBERSHIP: Full membership shall be open to registered students of Glasgow University only. Not restricted to, but aimed at medical, dental and nursing students.


5.GOVERNANCE:

5.1 The Club shall be under the control of membership.

5.2 The Business of the Club shall be conducted by an elected committee.

5.3 Any member who is a registered student shall have full voting rights at General Meetings of the Club.

5.4 The society shall have four office bearers; President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer.

5.5 The society shall have six non-executive members; an education portfolio lead, a welfare portfolio lead, a diversity portfolio lead, events co-ordinator, public relations co-ordinator, medical school representative, dental school representative and nursing school representative.

5.6 Any member who is a registered student and studies Medicine, Dentistry or Nursing shallhave the right to stand for any position on the committee.

5.7All committee positions shall be elected at Annual General Meeting or at an Extraordinary General Meeting to fill a vacancy on the committee.

5.8 No full member should be barred from standing for office in the society. The preceding clause will yield in special circumstances as laid out in Article 5, section 12 of the Consituitionand Article 13, section 3 of the Committee Bylaws.

5.9 If an officer is removed from the committee they shall not be allowed to stand for any other position on the committee for that academic year, overruling Article 5, section 11, clause 1 of the Constitution

5.10 All elections must be held by secret ballot.

5.11 All office bearers shall be a registered student at the University of Glasgow and shall not have opted out of SRC representation under the Education Act 1994.

5.12 The Annual General Meeting, at which office bearers shall be elected and the club accounts submitted and approved by the membership shall be called with not less than 10 working days notice to the membership.

5.13 Committee resignations shall be instituted by a letter of resignation to the secretary of the society. In the case of the resignation of the secretary, resignation may be instituted by a letter to the president. 7.CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS:

7.1The membership may make constitutional amendments at the Annual General Meeting, upon receipt of a petition signed by 25% of the membership

7.2 On receipt of a petition signed by 25% of the membership, the secretary shall give five working days notice of an Extraordinary General Meeting to consider submitted amendments.
